Abstract

Background. One of the topical problems reflected in a number of scientific works is a problem of formation of self-preserving behavior. Due to the Russian society’s transition to a new model of social relations in conditions of socioeconomic reforms the population’s perception of health values has changed: due to a new life pace many people have started paying more attention to health preservation and keeping to a health way of life. It is known that a certain level of health belongs to an individual from birth, but in conditions of market relations it itends to be considered as provate property. The aim of the article is to study the notion “self-preserving behavior” and the process of its formation.
Materials and methods. The research tasks were implemented through analyzing scientific works by foreign and Russian sociologists on studying the features of slefpreserving behavior. The methodological potential included methods of comparative analysis and determination.
Results. On the basis of the analysis carried out the authors have revealed the essence of the notions “self-preserving behavior” and “commitment to medical treatment”. The researchers have also established that self-preserving behavior presupposes two models of realization: a positice one and a negative one.
Conclusions. The analysis has established that self-preserving behavior is a system of actions and attitutes of an individualaimed at preservation of health and prolongation of life.
